Gardener Kate's thoughts on the podcast: 'Assessing Your Spark For Life'
'More people than ever are walking through life disconnected, disengaged, dissatisfied, mired in regret, declining health, and a near maniacal state of gut-wrenching autopilot busyness.' Harsh... but so often true.
Gardener Kate here - feeling all inspired after listening to Jonathan Fields on the Darin Olien Show podcast: 'Assessing Your Spark For Life'.
This is a section that resonated a good deal with me...
“We invest so much time, money and energy in acquiring knowledge in every domain except ourselves. I feel like that’s changing. I feel like there has been a renewed focus on self discovery and self awareness...The last 18 months have been really hard for a lot of people, and one of the things that I see coming out of it is a really renewed sense of people asking some big existential questions. What am I here for? What fills me up? What empties me out?
…A lot of people are saying, you know what - I’m not ok….now that I’ve had this window of forced self-inquiry, I’m realising that I haven’t been ok for a long time - that I haven’t been spending my energy, my time, my love - doing things that actually I care about, doing things that make me come alive. And it actually matters to me more than I thought it did. And I think a lot of us are also being reacquainted with the fact that life can be fragile, and short. And we’re awakening to a deeper desire to go deeper within ourselves, and really understand ourselves, on a level that maybe lets us make choices that are more nourishing. On the one hand so that we can feel more alive, and more fully expressed. And on the other hand, I also feel like we need, as a culture, as a society, as a world, we need as many people to be lit up, to be at their best, to be functioning at the highest possible level, because we have big problems that need to be solved. And we need all the contribution that we can to help make that happen.”
Wise, considered words.
I am so so driven to help others help themselves, and always have been. Empowering people with the means to grow a little bit more of their own food is something I've always dreamed of doing. I'm a designer, a gardener, and I've always been fascinated with all things nutrition-based. So when I co-created Sow Fresh, it literally felt like a connection that was just waiting to happen. If we can help supplement the diets of the nation with concentrated vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that plants offer us so readily, to make a dent in keeping preventable diseases at bay, I'd be eternally grateful.
I do feel like I've found my true purpose in life. Jonathan has also developed Sparketype; an innovative assessment test to help 'discover the work that makes you come alive'. It takes less than 10 minutes, and although some 'personality tests' can be a little too generalised, I thought this one was intriguing.
